How can glass façades be further enhanced to maximize transparency while saving on materials and weight? The funded NEERO Facade research project addresses this challenge by investigating thin glass-plastic hybrid panels in the application field of ultra-light and highly transparent facades. The utilized material is an innovative lightweight construction product with a transparent Polymethyl Methacrylate (PMMA) core and external cover layers made of scratch-resistant thin glass. Possible applications for the development include the production of single and double-skin constructions for new buildings as well as the energetic renovation of existing buildings.
